In This is the Way to the Moon Sasek takes readers to the space capital of the world, Cape Canaveral, on the Florida coast. He takes a look at rockets, astronauts, launch day, the brains (both human and electronic) behind getting a man to space, plus what's going on outside the NASA fences. Also included are updated statistics about the space programme and the 1969 moon landing.
This title was originally published in 1963 as This is Cape Canaveral. Then, when the Cape was renamed after the assassination of President Kennedy, it was published as This is Cape Kennedy. But Cape Kennedy became Cape Canaveral again in 1974, so finally, it was republished in 2009 as This is the Way to the Moon - phew!
Miroslav Sasek was born in Prague in 1916. A holiday in Paris inspired
him to create children's travel guides, and the first of them, This Is Paris, was published in 1959.
